Great Success at Townhill Infants School6.00.00pm GMT Wed 4th Jan 2006
The New Year has kicked off in great style at Townhill Infants School with a party to celebrate a number of successes. The school has gained an Investor in People Award, had their best-ever SATs results, a good Ofsted inspection and received a mention in the Chief Inspector for Schools' report as a "Particularly successful school'. If that was not enough the school has also regained their Basic Skills Quality Mark for another three years after children were judged to have excellent reading, writing and maths skills. The pupils at the school were joined in the main hall to celebrate by parents, governors and Southampton education leaders. The pupils treated the invited audience to some songs and examples the things they have been learning before the lemonade and slices of cake were shared out. Head teacher Penny Orme, who bas been at the school for 13 years, said the achievement was a team effort from everyone involved in the school. "What is wonderful is the biggest success of everyone working together," she said. "It's a fantastic achievement that has been from some very hard work from everybody involved including parents, pupils and everyone who works at the school." Local councillor and Townhill Infants School governor David Goodall said: "This is an excellent set of achievements by the pupils and staff at the school, as a governor at the school I know how hard all staff work, particularly as children start at the school with a great variety of ability and needs." Penny Orme added: "The success is very much something for the community" The Townhill Infants School, Benhams Road, Southampton, has about 240 pupils aged from four to seven. It is a Southampton School which serves the people in Townhill Park and West End.
