Southampton's roads are cracking up
Sat 23rd Jan 2010
After the recent cold weather the roads in Southampton up cracking up even worse than before, as the ice combined with the Council's emphasis on patching rather than whole road proper resurfacing has left our roads in a shocking state. The council only response is emergency funds to increase the patching and as everyone is aware these patches only last until the next spot of bad weather.

Forced Mass Medication
Wed 25th Mar 2009
A sham consultation has made a mockery local people's wishes. The decision by South Central Strategic Health Authority's board to allow fluoride to be added to the water is fundamentally wrong. They are an unelected board and so have to get a mandate to make major decisions; They must consult the people they serve. In that consultation three-quarters of the people who are affected and expressed a view said "no" to fluoridated water. Also, among the elected councils consulted four out of five said "no" to fluoridated water.

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has made a last-ditch bid to stop the mass fluoridation of water going ahead by appealing for the Environment Agency to look at its impact on local water courses and rivers. Mr Huhne said that there should be a proper Environmental Impact Assessment of the decision by the South Central Strategic Health Authority (NHS) to order Southern Water to add fluoride to the local water supply.

Fairer Economic Future
Sun 4th Jan 2009
People today are struggling with spiralling debts, rising food and energy bills and unaffordable mortgages. A decade of complacency by Gordon Brown has meant that with plummeting house prices, falling growth, inflation problems and rising unemployment, the UK economic outlook has not looked so bleak since the 1990's Tory recession. So after the 10p tax fiasco and ineffective 2.5p VAT cut what the economic situation actually demands is a fairer economic future.

Support the Gurkhas
Fri 26th Sep 2008
It's an ongoing disgrace: Gurkhas who retired from the British Army after 1997 can automatically stay in the UK, but those who retired earlier must apply, and many have been refused and face deportation. Pension rights for years served by Gurkhas before 1997 count at only around a quarter of the level of years served after that time. Now the high court has backed the Gurkhas campaign the government must not only give all retired Gurkhas the right to live in this country, but must give all Gurkhas a full British army pension when they retire.

| Quotes of the Week |

"Anyone who wants to pass laws in this country should pay this country's full taxes and not hide behind the special offshore status of non-doms. Non-doms have to tell the taxman that their first allegiance is to another country. No-one should be a British lawmaker whose first allegiance is not to Britain. "
Chris Huhne, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary

"I think people are entitled to expect a sensible, stable government at a time when the country is facing very, very acute choices. We take what the markets are worrying about immensely seriously. We will not take any risk with the creditworthiness of the economy. "
Nick Clegg, Leader of the Liberal Democrats
Financial Times - 3 March
